DBV
Presentation
DBV is a Scared Stiff specific mod that receives its information directly from the DMC controller.
Originally, the eyes of the "Bony Beast" were simple red lamps. With this mod, they are replaced by realistic and animated pupils.
They are made with miniature OLED screens and covered with an oval glass lens. As these test charts show, the two screens are independent and can display different images.
The microcontroller is installed in the skull and the connection to the DPS is made by a three-wire cable.
The drawing of the pupils is of photographic quality and can move both horizontally and vertically (and simultaneously if necessary).
On this prototype, the white background makes it possible to distinguish the shape of the oval mask (vinyl cover cut with a plotter). On the final version, the bottom of the eye is black to blend in perfectly with the whole.
Up to 8 eye models are available and chosen according to the phases of the game. In order to be able to fit everything into the memory of the microcontroller, a specific compression algorithm was used.

Besides pupil movements, many animations are also coded in the DBV. Thus the beating of the eyes, or a simple wink of an eye make the beast alive. When the mission "EYES OF THE BONY BEAST" is completed, the eyes turn red. When a capture is possible, they turn green; and when this is done, a grid closes on them.
